Hello, I’m Sunshine and I’m thrilled to be a part of The Compassion Project as a psychotherapy intern. My journey unfolded as an emergency registered nurse, where every heartbeat and every breath became an integral part of my existence.

In the chaotic realm of emergency care, I found solace in being a guiding light for individuals and families navigating their darkest hours. From comforting children in distress to supporting the elderly through many health challenges, my role as a nurse became a testament to the power of empathy and genuine connection.

The decision to transition to psychotherapy wasn’t a career shift; it was a calling born from the countless stories engraved in my memory. These experiences, each a unique chapter in the book of human resilience, ignited a passion for addressing the profound impact of trauma. It became clear that true healing extends beyond physical wounds—it delves into the recesses of the soul.

I am fueled by a deep-seated commitment to compassionate healing. There’s an intricate dance between the seen and unseen, the physical and the emotional, and I’ve come to realize that true understanding lies at the intersection of these realms.

Being on the frontline of emergency care has gifted me a nuanced perspective that I now bring to the therapy room. It’s not just about clinical expertise; it’s about creating a sacred space where individuals can unravel the tapestry of their trauma, knowing they’re not alone. It’s about holding space for healing, growth, and transformation.

Join me on this profoundly personal journey at The Compassion Project. Together, we’ll explore the depths of resilience, and in the process, discover the transformative power of compassion that resides within us all.

The mind and the body are intrinsically connected. It’s amazing how our feelings, beliefs, and thoughts can show up in our physical bodies. We all have visceral reactions to our experiences and the world around us, and this may create physical sensations, or maybe just as thoughts that have stopped us from feeling safe within ourselves. Maybe this has shown up in your life as fear, anxiety, perfectionism, distrust, people-pleasing, or feelings of stuckness. These elements might be contributing to patterns in relationships, as creative or technical blockages, and in other parts of your life that are not serving you as you would like. It may even feel like it’s limiting your own access to your most authentic self and ability to express.

In my past work, I was an international operatic soloist, as well as a private singing teacher. For the past 16 years, I have personally worked in volatile work environments with painful power dynamics, and worked with performing artists developing their own personal and artistic growth while navigating broken systems. Although this may sound incredibly niche, I believe that, as things stand today, this story may resonate across many experiences.

Working through a trauma-informed, gender affirming lens, I find myself drawn to helping build safe internal spaces through polyvagal, somatic, breathing, and experiential interventions, in combination with techniques drawn from parts work, internal family systems, attachment theory, and relational theories, we work together toward self-discovery. My aim is to provide a safe external space while you create a safe internal space.

I believe therapy can be a powerful tool for gaining a new perspective and transforming our lives. As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) at The Compassion Project, I aim to help you see things in a new light and discover fresh ways of approaching challenges.

Through our collaborative work, we’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours to gain insight into what drives your current patterns. Then, we will compassionately connect with these parts to help you feel more confident, connected, and complete.

I work with individuals aged 12 and over. My therapeutic approach is informed by Internal Family Systems theory, trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and Attachment Theory. I am particularly interested in supporting clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodiversity, self-esteem, and identity development.

I create a safe, nurturing space for sharing your story, exploring emotions, and embarking on your healing journey. When you’re ready to take the first step towards a happier, more fulfilling life, I will walk alongside you, offering guidance and support as you discover new perspectives and possibilities.
